After much internet speculation several months ago, The Cars have confirmed that they have reunited to record their first album in 23 years, as well as hinting that they may go back on the road to tour the album.  The band have posted a snippet of a new song on their Facebook page, and producer Paul Orofino has confirmed that he has been recording the band at his studio in upstate New York. The line up features all living original members – Rick Ocasek, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson – with Hawkes filling in the bass parts for bassist Benjamin Orr who died of cancer in 2000. The Boston band’s new wave guitar and synth heavy sound spawned a number of hits, including “Just What I Needed,” “Best Friend’s Girl” and “Let’s Go.”
