After years of cementing her status as one of indie pop’s moodiest luminaries, The Japanese House has finally released her stunning debut Good at Falling.
Showcasing The Japanese House’s (aka, Amber Bain) skillful knack for crafting deeply ambient soundscapes that cradle undeniable alt-pop hooks, Good at Falling is a poignant, honest body of work that chronicles a musician who’s spent years honing their craft.
Good at Falling comes after the release of four EPs, Pools To Bathe In (2015), Clean (2015), Swim Against The Tide (2016) and her latest release, 2017’s Saw You In A Dream, that saw The Japanese House garner a fervent fanbase and receive huge amounts of praise throughout the indie music community.
The album, co-produced by The 1975’s George Daniel features the singles ‘Lilo’ and ‘Maybe You’re the Reason’, as well as ‘Follow My Girl’ and ‘We Talk all the Time’, that swelled further hype around the already anticipated album.
Good at Falling is, according to Bain, her most personal, vulnerable and yet confident body of work to date, highlighted in the vivid lyricism and all-encompassing instrumentals. Drawing from specific elements of her life, Bain describes the record as “definitely more direct” than her pervious works.
Over the last few years, The Japanese House has shared the stage with label mates The 1975 and will take Good at Falling to the stages of Reading and Leeds festival this August.
To celebrate the release of the record, The Japanese House has released a video for the bittersweet, downtempo pop anthem ‘Maybe You’re the Reason’.
