The Killers have dropped an unexpected song for your enjoyment, the previously unreleased track ‘C’est La Vie’.

As per NME, the track comes from the Las Vegas band’s new deluxe edition of their most recent album, 2020’s Imploding the Mirage.

‘C’est La Vie’ is unusually pop-oriented for the indie rockers, with a lighter rhythm and bounce than their usual anthems.

Brandon Flowers finds time to reference everything from Moby Dick (“Well, sometimes, you’re Ahab / And sometimes, you’re the whale”) and Simon & Garfunkel (“Well, sometimes, you’re the hammer / And sometimes, you’re the nail”).

A series of other poetic contradictions follow, in a song about never giving up hope and taking both the good and bad in life (hence the French song title).

The deluxe edition of Imploding the Mirage comes with stripped down versions of the tracks ‘Blowback’ and ‘Caution’, with the former done acoustically and the latter performed in ‘Wasatch Style’.

Imploding The Mirage may have only just come out last August but The Killers are clearly in a rush to release its follow-up.

Flowers told NME that it “might be even better” than Imploding The Mirage. That might be a tall order considering that album received some of the band’s strongest reviews in years.

“Every time someone makes a record they say that they have 50 songs and they’re going to release another record. We really are,” Flowers said.

“We’re going to release another one in about 10 months. We’ve already gone back into the studio with [Jonathon, producer] Rado and Shawn [Everett, producer]. We did a week in Northern California.”

Flowers continued: “I had a lot of time on my hands. Before I’d normally be gearing up to tour, all of that time has gone back into writing more songs. It’s been pretty fruitful.”

Clearly a band who know how to treat their fans well. Keep an eye out for more news about the forthcoming album in the coming months.
