With so much new music floating around the interwebs, sometimes it’s hard to dig a little deeper and find out more about a promising artist.

That’s why The Profile is breaking it down for you. The Pitch takes care of the nitty gritty factual bits, The Plot serves as a Q & A with the artist, and The Plug is where you can go for more.

The Pitch

When The Acid first emerged, there was mystery. Who was behind it? The mystery has now been solved…

The Acid are globe trotting, Grammy nominated DJ & Producer Adam Freeland, creator of subversive crossover hit We Want Your Soul; Californian producer, composer, professor of music technology Steve Nalepa; and Australian, LA based artist and producer Ry X, whose Berlin EP was released in late 2013 to acclaim, and who, with his other alter ego as one half of Howling, created an eponymous club smash and toured heavily through 2013’s festival circuit.

The Plot

Hometown: “The place I grew up was so safe and lacking in edge or multi cultural community that it moulded me in the way that I was deeply frustrated and had to rebel and get away from there. Every experience we have will mould our reality tunnel and hence creativity in some way.”

Influences: “The Comedian Bill Hicks was a big influence in my early 20’s . He used his wit to breakdown walls and really say something profound/ important. I really resonate with his perspective. This youtube clip, of one his last shows before he died, sums it up.”

Tommy Lee: About a decade ago. I was DJing at Coachella festival in Palm Springs desert. There were about 10,000 people infront of me in the Sahara tent and this tattooed rockstar looking dude was on my stage, dancing about punching the air and whooping and whistling throughout my whole set. He introduced himself to me afterwards .’Elo Mate!’ His name was Tommy Lee. Turns out he was a closet fan of electronic beats and had been collecting my mixes. He has this infectious childlike energy which I instantly warmed to, we were necking Tequila shots before I could say Motley who? Fast forward 48 hrs sleepless after we were on his private jet to Miami and while standing up ‘runway surfing’ while taking off we declared our Bromance official.

Paul Laffoley: My friend and band mate in The Acid, Steve Nalepa, turned me on to Paul Laffoley, they are friends. His work really affects me. His art is on the walls of the studio in LA and It influenced all of us in The Acid and our writing process.”

Books: Anthony de Mallo ‘Awareness‘ is one of many great books which have been influenced my path. Kurt Vonnegut: ‘The Sirens of Titan’, bad ass Sci fi from the 50s.”

Get your daily dose of metal, rock, indie, pop, and everything else in between.

First song you ever wrote: “I had written much instrumental music but the first time I wrote a ‘song ‘with lyrics was ‘We Want Your Soul’ It took about 45 minutes to write, samples Bill Hicks and went in the pop charts. Until being OF The Acid it’s been my most popular track.”

Favourite local act: “Nick Cave is my neighbour. No matter who else moves in to my neighbourhood you cant top Nick cave.”

Favourite local venue: “The Concorde is a pretty special quirky venue on the seafront in Brighton and exactly halfway between my house and Nicks house. My dream is one day we both walk there , he from the East, I from the West and we play a gig.”

Best gig you’ve ever been to: “Iggy and the Stooges at the Wiltern in LA in around 2010”

Venue Or Festival you’d love to play: “Did you ever see the DVD of Pink Floyd in Pompeii? I cant think of a more epic scenario than playing in the old Roman Amphitheatre on a warm night under a lunar eclipse (with lazers!)”
