Every self-respecting festival-goer knows the value of good, clean on-site toilets – which is exactly why private facilities are usually at the top of any VIP ticket – and finding the perfect festival portaloo is as much about luck as it timing your bladder.
Big Day Out’s US owners, C3 Presents, certainly knows it and have created the music festival toilet to end all music festival toilets for this year’s Austin City Limits festival, as Consequence of Sound reports.
The Golden Porta Potty isn’t just a place to do your ones and twos in high style, it’s also kitted out air conditioning, imported Egyptian toilet paper, and “pure 24 karat gold” fittings.
Not extravagant enough? The golden throne’s even got facilities to charge your phone, sparkling water, perfume, and a live feed of the festival, so you don’t miss any of the action when nature calls.
But before you start popping champagne and sending C3 Presents commendations, you should know that the Golden Porta Potty is as exclusive as its features.
Austin City Limits are holding a contest where just six people can win 10 private passes to the luxury lavatory, along with 10 single day passes to the event, taking place this October with a lineup featuring Eminem, Outkast, Pearl Jam, Skrillex, Beck, and more. So is this just another gimmicky attempt by festival promoters to stand out from the overcrowded music festival flock? Or the latest genuine attempt to offer the jaded festival-goer a unique experience? Food for thought as you take a guided tour inside the Austin City Limits Golden Porta Potty.
In related music festival toilet news (yeah, that’s a thing now), chef-turned-rapper (and Groovin The Moo absentee) Action Bronson delivered part of his set at Ottawa Bluesfest over the weekend from inside a portaloo, strolling in during his performance of ‘It Concerns Me’ without disrupting his flow, as the below fan footage demonstrates.
Meanwhile, some YouTube brainiacs recently figured out the secret to finding yourself the cleanest music festival toilet possible, thanks to mathematical theory.
