He’s already a chart-topping musician, but now The Weeknd is set to make his film debut alongside big names like Adam Sandler.

If you’ve paid any attention to the world of music over the last decade, you would undoubtedly know all about The Weeknd. The musical moniker of Canada’s Abel Tesfaye, he’s released three full-length albums, toured the world, topped the charts, sold millions of records, and even won numerous Grammy Awards.

Now though, it seems as though an Oscar might be what he has his sights set on.

As Billboard reports, The Weeknd is one of the big names set to appear in the Benny and Josh Safdie-directed Uncut Gems, which is set to premiere later this year.

Described as something of a crime thriller, the film is set to also feature the likes of Adam Sandler, Kevin Garnett, Julia Fox, Idina Menzel, LaKeith Stanfield, Noa Fisher, and more.

As the Toronto International Film Festival explainsUncut Gems is an “electrifying crime thriller about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic New York City jeweler [sic] always on the lookout for the next big score.

“When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.”

Clocking in at 135 minutes, the film is expected to be released on Christmas Day, with a trailer dropping this September, ahead of an eventual move to Netflix in the future.

At this stage, further details about the film are scarce, though it appears as though this is going to be one of those “serious” Adam Sandler films, meaning that we’re likely in for some pretty stunning acting from the entire cast.
