One of Australia’s most beloved bands, The Whitlams, are set to hit the road next May, touring to celebrate 20 years since the release of the acclaimed Love This City record.

Back in 1999, The Whitlams were undoubtedly household names thanks to the success of 1997’s Eternal Nightcap. With huge singles to their name, and a #1 spot on the triple j Hottest 100, the band were unstoppable.

Releasing their follow-up, Love This City, in November of 1999, the group found their biggest success up to that point.

Hitting #3 on the charts, and spawning singles such as ‘Blow Up The Pokies’, ‘Thank You (For Loving Me At My Worst)’, and ‘Chunky Chunky Air Guitar’ (okay, maybe it wasn’t an A-side, but it should have been), the record was a major hit.

Now, two decades on, the band are set to tour Australia, celebrating the classic record and playing some of its most memorable songs live.

Dubbed the ‘Last Drinks At The Morrison Hotel’ tour, the group are set to kick off in Newcastle on May 22nd, before wrapping up 15 shows later in Perth, on July 4th.

“I have identified 12 songs and two bonus tracks that I still want to play from ‘Love This City’, and that will make up the core of the shows this May and June,” explained The Whitlams’ frontman Tim Freedman.

“The other half of the rambunctious long set will wander widely through the other five albums, stopping off for six minutes at Bob Dylan’s ‘Tangled Up In Blue’, which it’s time to play again.”

Joining The Whitlams on this tour will be a veritable who’s-who of Aussie rock, with Bob Evans (otherwise known as Jebediah’s Kevin Mitchell), and Killing Heidi’s Ella Hooper on the bill for many of the capital city shows.

The Whitlams are also set to play two shows this February, including a special appearance at Twilight At Taronga with William Crighton on February 8th.

Show details and ticketing information can be found both below, and at The Whitlams’ website.
