The Who’s iconic guitarist Pete Townshend has become an author once again, with his first novel being released later this year.

Ever since Pete Townshend entered the world of music almost 60 years ago, he’s been considered a legend by almost everyone who has heard of him.

Without ever receiving any formal training, he’s managed to put himself and his bandmates in The Who on the map, often being considered one of the greatest guitarists of all-time.

In addition to his time as a musician though, Townshend has also shown a keen interest in the literary world. Having writing a collection of short stories, Townshend also wrote a number of scripts and novellas, with a draft for his debut novel, Ray High & The Glass Household, remaining unpublished since 1989.

Now, after decades on top of his game, Townshend has decided to give it another shot, entering the world of the written word once again.

As Stereogum notes, Pete Townshend has today announced the release of his debut novel, The Age Of Anxiety.

Set to be released in November, the novel takes place against the backdrop of London, touching on themes of creativity, the music business and “deals with mythic and operatic themes including a maze, divine madness, and long-lost children.”

“Ten years ago I decided to create a magnum opus that would combine opera, art installation and novel,” he explained. “Suddenly here I am with a completed novel ready to publish. I am an avid reader and have really enjoyed writing it.”

“I am also happy to say the majority of the music is composed, ready to be polished up for release and performance. It’s tremendously exciting.”

At this stage, there’s no word as to when fans will get to hear this new music he has alluded to, or the new art installation.

Pete Townshend’s The Age Of Anxiety is set to be released on November 5th. The Who are also reportedly working on their first new album since 2006, though details are still quite scarce in that regard.
