Gary Moore, the Belfast born guitar supremo who had two stints as an axeman in Thin Lizzy, has died aged 58. The blues rock legend was found dead in his Spanish hotel room over the weekend. Moore was drafted by front man Phil Lynott in to the band on two occasions, both stints ending due to his fiercely competitive relationship with Lynott. Founding member of Thin LIzzy Brian Downey said: “I am in total shock. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and I just can’t believe he is gone. I have known Gary since 1967 when he was in (the band) Platform Three and he’s been an amazing friend ever since. It was a pleasure to play with Gary again in 2006 after his days with Lizzy.”

Moore, who in solo guise was a regular visitor to Australia, also released 20 solo albums, increasingly focusing on his blues virtuosity and had a big hit here with his single ‘Still Got The Blues (For You)’ in 1990. In the mid nineties he also played in the short lived supergroup BBM, which also featured Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker from Cream.
