It’s everyone’s goal to one day be commemorated eternal in monetary form, and now it seems that Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott will receive that very honour thanks to Ireland’s Central Bank.

A coin commemorating Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott is being launched by Ireland’s Central Bank.

Lynott was the music legend who played bass and sang lead in the celebrated Dublin band Thin Lizzy from 1969 until his untimely death in 1986. He is to be remembered with 3,000 rare coins that possess a face value of €15.

President Michael D Higgins will unveil the coin on this Tuesday, November 26 at St Kevin’s College, Crumlin, Dublin, which is Lynott’s former school.

The move marks 70 years since Lynott’s birth. The musician died at the age of 36 after contracting pneumonia and suffering organ failure.

Other tributes to Lynott have been made over the years including his mother, Philomena, who had a statue of her son erected in Dublin city centre, just off Grafton Street, in 2005.

In other news, last month Thin Lizzy’s founding guitarist Eric Bell branded Metallica a “pack of bastards” after the heavy metal icons allegedly failed to pay him for a gig.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, Bell explained that he was flown the UK to Dublin on Metallica’s private jet for the show. While he expected to make £2,000 for the gig, Bell noted that there was no prior agreement on his fee, and claimed that he’s still waiting to see any cash from the show.

“It was about half three in the morning,” he recalled. “The transport was all lined up, and there was a car to take me home.

“I was quietly expecting about two grand, which wouldn’t have meant a thing to them. But I got handed over a big ball of Metallica t-shirts, keyrings and hats. I got paid fuck all. Then they all fucked off.

Meanwhile, the rock group have been nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2020.

They join the likes of Depeche Mode, Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails and Whitney Houston in being given the nod. The induction ceremony for the winner will be held at Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio on May 2, 2020.
