A Melbourne six-piece that have turned to their fanbase to help raise backing for a world tour have not only smashed their $40,000 target but have now been crowned as the new Australian kings of crowdfunding.
Self-described “progressive/extreme/melodic metal (with violin)” band, Ne Obliviscaris have broken the Aussie record for the most money ever raised for a music related crowdfunding project. A title previously held by Eskimo Joe after the multi platinum selling three-piece raised $60,736 towards the production and release of their latest studio album.
But Ne Obliviscaris – who you might recognise for being the first leaked band on the Soundwave 2015 lineup – have surpassed Eskimo Joe’s efforts for their own Pozible campaign, hitting a staggering $63,177.
“What can we say… our minds are blown,” the band wrote to their 32,687 Facebook followers. “I know we’ve already said this a lot lately… but thank you all so much for your incredible support.”

More impressively is the speed at which pledgers flocked to the cause of the band, who have opened for international metal heavyweights Devin Townsend, Enslaved, Cradle of Filth, and Between The Buried & Me.
Originally launched on Monday 30th June, Ne Obliviscaris set an ambitious funding goal of $40,000 towards a world tour taking in Europe, the UK, North America, India, Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, South East Asia, and Australia.
Within 38 hours, they’d rocketed past their $40k target and within 10 days had surpassed previous records set by fellow Melbourne prog rockers Twelve Foot Ninja and Eskimo Joe. The Pozible campaign tally is currently sitting at $63,177 with another 45 days remaining for pledgers to push Ne Obliviscaris’ historic bar-setting amount even higher.

Rick Chen, Pozible co-founder and Director, also praised the six-piece and their fans in their achievement: “We are thrilled to see a growing number of music projects successfully reaching their target on Pozible and love the diversity of our audience and their tastes in music,” he said in statement.
Among the 700 plus pledgers to the historic campaign are hardcore fans who trumped up over $1,000 towards unique rewards such as getting the instruments belonging to bassist Cygnus and drummer Dan Presland, as well as the chance to name a Ne Obliviscaris EP released to commemorate the Pozible campaign.
The band are also releasing their new album – the follow-up to 2012 debut LP Portal Of I – later this year, a fact they tweeted to Soundwave boss AJ Maddah in the hopes of being added to the hard and heavy festival’s 2015 lineup before Maddah officially made Ne Obliviscaris the first confirmed act of the new two-day format Soundwave as lineup leaks and rumours continue to swirl.
