We’ll be the first to admit that there’s some pretty bizarrely named music festivals in Australia, we’ve got Rabbit’s Eat Lettuce, Groovin’ The Moo and Pigsty In July just to name a very short few, but boy, there’s a new player on the block, and it really takes the gold.
Introducing Googfest, a free music festival that’s set to rock Canberra this Saturday 7 February, as The Canberra Times reports.
Pitched unbelievably as a family fun event, the free fest will be headlined by X-Factor winner Dami Im alongside Lavers, Mary Ann ver Der Horst and Big Boss Groove ‘rounding out what promises to be a very memorable first Googfest.
If the name itself wasn’t enough, what’s even more right-off is that the official website encourages punters to “Speak Googonian” when displaying their “cooking” skills at the festival – too damn much, right?
Now, if you’re reading this with a raised brow and not too sure what’s both hilarious and so very wrong with naming a festival, let alone a night out that’s aimed at families, Googfest, it’s that “googs” is a very common street name for ecstasy.
To provide clarity, we’ll let Robbie F from Urban Dictionary give the best definition: “Goog, an ecstacy pill. A pill which includes ingredients such as MDMA, PDMA,K “lets go out tonight, Robbie’s got heaps of googs.” Yep, understand why we’re jumping up and down now?
We don’t want to blow this out of proportion, Googfest more than likely scored its loose name due to the fact that the festival is being held in Googong, a suburb of Queanbeyan, New South Wales.
And we shouldn’t poke too much fun, organisers clearly have goog intentions in throwing a free live music festival in the heartland of Googong. Where else but Googfest can one lay down a picnic rug, chill with their kids and crack open a bottle of wine and not have to worry about sniffer dogs.
