Good Manners Monthly #1

Where? Boney, 68 Little Collins St, Melbourne

Why? Following the success first curated night at Shadow Electric, music management company/ tastemakers/ all around good dudes Good Manners are launching a brand new monthly party to celebrate some of their favourite local acts. Their first official party launches on Thursday night and features a line up you’ll find hard to beat. Performing live is ambient producer Planete and industrial techno talent NULL, while Djs for the night feature Ara Koufax, Amateur Dance, Rat & Co. and many more. For only $10 there’s no excuse not to start your weekend a day early.

Flyying Colours

Where? The Odd Fellow, 47 South Terrace, Fremantle
When? 8pm, Friday 17th July
Why? After having to canel their ‘pre tour’ show, Melbourne Fuzz gods are making amends and bringing their psych rock goodness to The Odd Fellow this Friday night. They’ll be supported by local guests Mt Mountain, Pat Chow, SpaceManAntics and Ursula – head down, these guys are worth the wait, trust us.

Morning Harvey

Where? Oxford Art Factory, 38-46 Oxford St, Darlinghurst, Sydney
When? 8pm, Saturday 18th July
Why? The Brisbane band built around the lyrical musings and melodic swagger of Spencer White will pop by OAF in support of a killer new EP love&loveand which was released earlier this month. Traversing the genres of psych pop and nostalgic post punk, Mornign Harvey are one act to just onboard with (before they blow up).

Ali Barter + Gordi

Where? The Workers Club, 51 Brunswick St, Fitzroy, Melborune
When? 8pm, Thursday 16th July
Why? Ali Barter and Gordi are both launching brand new singles and to celebrate they’re teaming up for some very special double-headline shows. Ali Barter knows a thing or two and delivering stunning live shows, having toured wight he likes of War On Drugs and Phosphorescent, while Sydney based folktronica artist  Gordi has received comparisons to Asgeir, Tallest Man on Earth and Angel Olsen. Two talent songwriters for the price of one, how could you go wrong??

Klo

Why? Freshly returned from their European tour which included performances at The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City and Primavera Sound, Klo will be bringing their progressive pop soundscapes to Newtown Social club in celebration of the launch of their 7″ titled Under Lie. Supported by BUOY and Tennis Boys, and with a free 7″ copy on their new single on entry this is a mid week must not miss event.

The Dunes

Why? Every Friday night this July Adelaide rockers The Dunes have been taking over The Grace Emily, and with only two shoegaze and fuzz soaked weeks left it’s time to get into gear and head along to the GE. This week the band have roped in fellow Adelaide crew and krautrockers Thanes to support – with free entry and guaranteed good tunes, where else is there to be?

Winterplan

Why? Melbourne’s electronic talent Winterplan will be celebrating the release of their impressive debut LP, Fight/Flight which combines modern day indie influences The Knife while referencing the more retro sounds of Kraftwerk to create a post-millennial electronic hybrid of sounds. They’ve enlisted special guests The McQueens and Youthfire to support. Killer local music at a killer price. Single as that.

Music For The Girls Fundraiser

Where? The Milk Factory, 48 Montague Rd, Brisbane
When? 8pm, Friday 17th July
Why?
Local Brisbane singer-songwriters Rowen, Fieu and Astrid are banding together to help raise money for African girls’ education. ‘Music For The Girls’, featuring an all female line-up will be coming to The Milk Factory, with a sideshow at Sol Bar in July. In Sierra Leone, West Africa – one of the worst places on Earth to be born a girl, a girl is most likely to be raped than she is to go to high school. Education is power, and by attending ‘Music For The Girls’ you will be helping to make a difference. Amazing music for an important cause, we can’t recommend this event highly enough.
