Songs about ‘self-pleasure’ aren’t that hard to find: there’s the Vapour’s ‘Turning Japanese’, Billy Idol’s ‘Dancing With Myself’ and even iconic hit by the late, great Chrissy Amphlett and the Divinyls ‘I Touch Myself’. These songs and their accompanying videos have mostly been masked by a certain indirectness, or even discretion when it came to mentioning pleasuring oneself. Until now.
A new video from mysterious English trio Is Tropical has stripped back any sense of decency with a racy new video for their new single ‘Dancing Anymore’. Down right NSFW, the video sees a French teenager left alone in a stranger’s house to clean her pool but instead snoops and lounges around her home, before he begins fantasising about the female home owner.
The video gets increasingly more insane as his imagination gets more sexually creative, and watch out for a special cameo from the delivery man who interrupts his… uh… ‘private time’. In an effort to not give away too much of the clip (seriously, watch it now), all his fantasies come to life with the help of CGI, so the filming stages must have been pretty awkward, to say the least. ‘Dancing Anymore’ has already been banned from YouTube, and as Noisy puts it, “It’s probably the best visual representation of a teenage masturbation session that I’ve ever seen.” The lead single comes off of the band’s upcoming second album I’m Leaving which drops on May 20th.
The infectiously catchy single has a pulsating beat and a minimalist feel, reminiscent of french popsters The Teenagers. There’s a sexy to-and-fro from the male and female vocalists, with a synth-laden chorus that oozes a cool art house French vibe.
Is Tropical worked with French powerhouse directors Megaforce on the video, which explains why the clip is surprisingly cinematic; it even reminisces a little with Lara Croft-esque animation and visual effects that literally take over the screen and the teenagers’ imagination.
Is Tropical also utilised the directors’ talents back in 2011 for their creative video for catchy hit ‘The Greeks’. Making huge waves internationally, the clip sees kids pretending to ‘play guns’, shooting at each other with computer animated special effects that take their imaginative playing to gruesome reality. The video soon became a viral hit, earning the band a UK Video Music Award in 2011.
In related music video news, we’ve also seen the release of the most amazing interactive music video you’ll ever see, made by Dutch band Light Light. The Netherlands-based band has a viral hit on their hands thanks to an online music video described as being ‘crowdsourced’, but instead of asking for funds from fans, they’re asking for people’s mouse cursors.
The new music video is essentially an interactive game that tracks and records your mouse pointer’s movements in a series of activities and instructions, then adds each subsequent play-through to the finished video, resulting in a swarm of pointers that move (mostly) in unison to the soundtrack and various on-screen instructions.
