The latest EP from six-piece Sydney based outfit Tigertown showcases their talent for sweeping songs that feature gorgeous harmonies and luscious melodies. Before The Morning collects five indie-pop numbers that are seemingly fragile, yet profound.
The record begins with the galloping rhythm of ‘The Morning Has Finally Come’ and has a charm that’ll leave you feeling somewhat content with the world. The mix of percussion, keyboards and vocals is enchanting and fans of alternative pop will surely be curious to hear more.
‘Lions & Witches’, the first single, offers a perfect example of the powerful harmonies of lead female vocalist, known simply as Charlie, and her partner/electric guitarist, Chris, which fans of the band have been raving about.
Final track ‘Monsters’ ends the record on a high with a tune that will no doubt be stuck in your head long after it stops playing.
Tigertown cites Fleetwood Mac and Johnny Cash as early influences and their music and lyrics have been compared to the likes of Arcade Fire and Lykke Li. The diversity of influences makes for an intriguing sound that is likely to keep you interested in what the future holds for the emerging band.
The title of the EP is quite apt in summing up the sound and feel of the tracks. Listening to the delicate vocals and instrumentals conjures up images of that time of day just Before The Morning, where everything is quiet except for the sounds in your head.
