It’s 2021 and gatekeeping music nerds are still harassing young women that don metal t-shirts. In a particularly satisfying story, a TikTok R&B star Zaria has made those metalheads swallow their words after she was accused of donning a Metallica shirt as a fashion statement.

Zaria copped backlash after a series of TikTok videos in which she was wearing a Metallica shirt from the Ride The Lightning era. Haters were quick to grill her on whether or not she was a true fan of the metal titans, hitting her with the age-old “name three Metallica songs.”

Whilst these corny losers don’t deserve anyone’s time of day, Zaria responded in the greatest way imaginable. The musician responded to her critics by sharing a searing video of her ripping through a number of Metallica’s most beloved riffs.

“Really? Only three songs? How about I play them on guitar for you?” She says before cracking off a rendition of ‘Master of Puppets’ and ‘Enter Sandman’ and a succulent bit of finger-tapping from ‘One’.

@zariasmusicReply to @paytonnsmith I hope this video finds the #Metallica fans lol, not my best #guitar playing but that wasn’t really the point #guitarist♬ original sound – Zaria

“Social media does not do a very good job of showing the full range of who someone is,” Zaria shared at the close of the video. “I am a huge Metallica fan and I grew up playing guitar. Just because I sing R&B music doesn’t mean I can’t like metal.”

Zaria has since shared a number of mini-covers of Metallica songs, including a video of her performing the solo from ‘One’ and riffs from other beloved Metallica hits like ‘Battery’, ‘The Unforgiven’ and ‘To Live Is To Die’.

It didn’t take long for Zaria and her fingers of steel to reach the highest echelons of TikTok virility. The musician took to the platform to thank everybody that had taken interest in her videos.

“A little over a week ago I posted a video that has kind of changed my life,” she says. “I never expected the video to blow up, but basically what happened, I was wearing a Metallica shirt and some guy was like, ‘Name three Metallica songs.’

“So, clearly I am a very big Metallica fan and my goal now is actually to get the band to see it.”
