A huge day of rock n’ roll footy was held at Victoria Park in Melbourne, with the musically inclined denizens of Melbourne all putting on the sunglasses to come and have a laugh at their braver peers putting on the footy boots. Playing in memory of the late God, Bored! and Powdermonkeys legend, the Tim Hemensley Cup was won by The Tote hotel after a pathetic display from the Espy Rockdogs. In an ominous sign, the Espy’s captain failed to appear for the match (perhaps a bit too much rock n’ roll juice the night before?).

Despite a celebrity heavy line up featuring Tim Rogers from You Am I, The Bad Seeds’ Mick Harvey and Tex Perkins coaching from the boundary, the Espy Rockdogs were soundly thumped by The Tote, 18.17 to 1.2. Showing that there is a benefit to actually training on the footy ground as opposed to in the pub, The Tote taught a lesson to all in how to play pub footy. In the other main match of the day, the newly formed glamour team the Cherry Bar Bombs were soundly defeated by Fitzroy’s Worker’s Club. Despite the dubious nature of the talent on the field, it was yet another hugely successful day organised by Melbourne rock n’ roll footy legend Jason ‘Evo’ Evans. Another huge event on the rock n’ roll calendar concluded with a highly appropriate speech at The Tote in Tim Hemensley’s honour, followed by a ceremonial headbanging to ‘My Pal’.
