So, Tim Minchin isn’t really buying Cardinal George Pell’s sickie. In a new song which aired on Network Ten’s The Project last night, Minchin demands Australia’s highest-ranking Catholic Church cleric “come home”.

The catchy ditty sees Minchin blasting Pell as scum and a coward (“with all due respect”, of course) and welcoming a potential lawsuit from the cardinal himself, saying Pell should “come home and frickin’ sue me”.

I mean with all due respect dude, I think you are scum and I reckon you should come home“, Minchin sings. “Cardinal Pell, I know that you are not feeling well, perhaps you just need some sun / It is lovely here you should come home“.

As the Sydney Morning Herald reports, Cardinal Pell has claimed he is too unwell to travel to Australia and give evidence to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

After the performance aired, a GoFundMe page set up by The Project‘s Meshel Laurie and Gorgi Coghlan to help abuse victims travel to Rome to confront Pell quickly raised more than $113,000, far exceeding its $55,000 target.
