A park in Gainesville, Florida has been renamed “Tom Petty Park”, to honour the legacy of the late singer. The occasion fell on what would have been Tom Petty’s 68th Birthday.

Petty’s daughter Adria Petty and brother Bruce Pretty spoke to a crowd of fans at the park. The Gainesville Sun reports that Petty frequented the park as a child.

Bruce Petty has stated “My brother and I grew up in this park. We played as kids. My cousin reminded me the other day of my remark that it was a sanctuary, and it really was. It was a place for us to escape and be kids and have fun. The fact that we are doing this today and the part that we played in it makes it so much more special.”
