After years of honing his craft as a heart-string tugging crooner, melding the vibed-out soundscapes of modern hip hop and the vulnerability of indie folk, Tom Walker emerged as a heavy-hitting pop player with ‘Leave a Light On’
Released in October 2017, the song was a slow burner to total worldwide domination. Its simplistic yet hypnotically repetitive guitar picking, haunting vocal passages and cutting lyricism were a sure-fire recipe for success – ‘Leave a Light On’ had all the makings of a hit.
Since the track was released, it’s amassed over 200 million streams on Spotify, achieved Platinum certification in six countries and managed to nab a top ten chart position in 16 different countries. With tours alongside George Ezra, Gallant and Jake Bugg under his belt, it’s fair to say Tom is poised to take the crown as a reigning pop deity soon.

Riding on the hype of ‘Leave a Light On’, Tom’s debut album What a Time to Be Alive is out today. The album is a collection of Tom’s most honest songwriting and expressive musical efforts to date – if you’re hooked on ‘Leave a Light On’ you’ll love its deep cuts too.
Whilst he’s captured the imagination of the public, Walker also has garnered serious respect amongst fellow musicians. To celebrate the release of his debut album and to get better well acquainted with the crooner, here’s a look at his biggest collaborations so far.
Zara Larsson
Walker teamed up with Swedish pop hitmaker Zara Larsson for the track ‘Now You’re Gone’, featured on What A Time To Be Alive, a collaboration that came about after a spontaneous studio encounter. Tom revealed during an interview with UK radio station Clyde 1’s Boogie, that it came about when he was working with a songwriter called Steve Mac, when Zara “just popped into the studio one day”.
He said that she fell in love with the track and ended up helping him with it, noting that he was surprised at how well their voices worked together and is “super excited” for people to hear it.
Zara already has a slew of hits under her belt including ‘Ruin My Life’ and ‘Symphony’, so don’t be surprised when you hear ‘Now You’re Gone’ dominating the airwaves.
