Tool’s Adam Jones has teamed up with American guitar-makers Gibson to produce a signature model Les Paul. The band shared an image on social media revealing the long-rumoured signature series is now in production.
Tool guitarist Adam Jones is rarely ever seen without his vintage silverburst Gibson Les Paul. Jones started hinting at a signature series collab with Gibson back in July 2019. “So excited,” he wrote on Instagram. “Not officially official but *Good things happening at @gibsonguitar.”
The venerated guitar brand then confirmed the Jones collaboration in a January 2020 press release. “The Gibson Custom Shop is also working with legendary and multi-talented Tool guitarist, artist, sculptor, special effects designer, videographer and producer Adam Jones on recreating his original 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverburst,” Gibson said. “More details to come on this project later in 2020.”
Those details are now starting to drip out. Tool’s latest Instagram post features a shelf full of in-production guitar bodies. “It doesn’t get more OFFICIAL than this,” writes the band. “@adamjones_tv Gibson Signature Guitars now in production!” Jones shared the same photo on his personal account.
In other Tool news, the band was forced to postpone their North American spring tour with special guests Blonde Redhead. They initially hoped to push things back to the Northern autumn, but they’ve since decided to scrap the tour entirely.
“When we played what would be our final show of 2020, March 11 at Portland’s Moda Center, we believed we would be back on the road sometime this Fall,” the band wrote on Friday, June 5th. “As we worked towards that goal we’ve come to realize that there is absolutely no certainty in re-scheduling dates for this Fall or 2021.
“We could continue to postpone or reschedule dates for some time into 2021 but ethically, we do not think this is the right course of action. In our opinion, tying up our fans’ money for months, if not a full year, is unfair. With that in mind, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the tour so we can help support the people who have supported us for years.”
