They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a great live music image says a whole lot more.

The skill of a great live music photographer is in being able to capture the spirit of the rock star or musician framed within their lens for a fleeting moment, and capture that character and energy in an image that will forever radiate with the same qualities.

That’s the beauty at the heart of Wide Eyed Live, a photo exhibition that showcases the absolute best work of some of the finest that Sydney’s live music photography scene has to offer.

Taking over Somedays Gallery, Surry Hills for its debut year, Wide Eyed Live will splay the walls with images the often crazy mix of incredible live acts, the extravagant stage productions and the dedicated fans who wait hours to see them.

Contributing their fine examples of being able to produce captivating images of live music for the world to see is 12 Sydney shutterbugs who regularly contribute to top music publications at home and abroad (including a number of names that will be very familiar to Tone Deaf’s readers).

Wide Eyed Live will feature photography by Clare Hawley, Josh Groom, Geneva Valek, Gwen Lee, Yaya Stempler, Phil Erbacher, Peter Dovgan, Scott Gallagher, Thomas Graham, Russell Privett, Peter Sharp, Maria de Vera, offering photos taken from the sweatiest, most cramped of pub gigs to the largest of Australia’s festivals, and everything in between.

The opening night of the exhibition is Wednesday 21st May from 6.00pm. More info at wideeyedlive.com and the event facebook page.
