Toto have shared an official cover of Weezer’s ‘Hash Pipe’ and… it is what it is, it’s here, it exists.

It’s actually unnerving hearing Toto perform a song that isn’t ‘Africa’ and I never thought I’d experience it, but here we are, at the climax of our Weezer and Toto journey. Back in July, Toto announced that they planned to cover the song.

In an interview with KROQ, Toto delved into their reasoning behind cover ‘Hash Pipe’

“We wanted to make it different, but we wanted to do something rock ‘n’ roll. I wanted to show everyone what a good rock ‘n’ roll band we can be. I love the band, I love their music. [Singer] Joseph [Williams] and I were listening to different ones trying to figure out which ones he’d like to sing and we settled on ‘Hash Pipe.’”

‘Hash Pipe’ was featured on Weezer’s third, self-titled album. Listen to the cover below.

If you haven’t been keeping up with our seemingly non-stop Weezer x Toto coverage then let me give you a quick, comprehensive rundown.

Back in December, a 14-year-old Twitter user named Mary started a campaign to get Weezer to cover ‘Africa’. The campaign then went viral and Weezer succumbed to the peoples demands and released a cover of… Roseanna, Toto’s arguably less successful hit.

Eventually, Weezer honored the peoples’ demands and released an actual cover of ‘Africa’. Which then got pressed on vinyl.

On Wednesday night Weezer covered ‘Africa’ with the help of Weird Al Yankovich.

And now we’re here. We did it. This may be the last article I ever write that mentions both Weezer and Toto. Unless, y’know, they go on and tour together.
