As we’ve said before Sydney Alt-rockers The Dead Love are the masters of pumping out straight-up non-nonsense, pedal to the metal rock n roll, and today marks the release of their debut album Transitions.

Recorded and produced by Grammy nominated producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith (The Toadies, Jet, The Dandy Warhols) in Austin TX and mixed by Chris Sheldon in the UK (Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Oceansize) Transitions is an impressive effort from the guys who cut their teeth playing live in venues all over the country, having toured with the likes of Closure In Moscow, British India, The Love Junkies , Born Lion, Redcoats, The Delta Riggs, The Sinking Teeth and Strangers.

To celebrate its relase, The Dead Love bass player Clint Ossington has given us a track by track run down of the album. Be sure to catch the guys when they launch Transitions at The Oxford Art Factory on Saturday August the 23rd. This Is A War

“Clocking in at just over 2 minutes, ‘This Is A War’ was the unrelenting first single from The Dead Love’s forthcoming debut album ‘Transitions’. It’s a threat, it’s a cry and it’s a chant, ‘This Is A War’ is a rally from the gut.”

Shine

“With a grooving drum and bass line, Shine sits in the pocket nicely then makes you want to (as the chorus chants) GET UP and sing along! The harmony chants build bigger and bigger start to finish!”

Back To You

“The 3rd single taken from Transitions, drawing from the band’s earlier Beatles and Led Zeppelin influences, ‘Back To You’ delivers a foot stomping riff, anthemic chorus and gritty guitar solo weaving melody and angst seamlessly from start to finish whilst staying true to The Dead Love’s staple grunge rock sound.”

Wasted Youth

“A high tempo fist pumping anthem, featuring guest vox from ATX prodigal young guns Residual Kid! Wasted Youth is grunge rock thumper!”

Past Present Future

“A shift from the guitar onto piano singer Stevie Knight’s bares his soul lyrically on this track! ‘Past Present Future’ showcases the bands ability to diversify bringing in horn and string sections creating a somber mood throughout.”

Sun Comes Out To Play

“Another track featuring the horns, this one sits back into the shine vibe but with more jangly guitars and an almost Motown feel – not shy on the tambourine and we love that!”

Western Hooker

“Kicking in with gritty bass tones and pounding toms, Western hooker grinds the listeners bones! Balancing aggressive an verse vocal with melodic a chorus approach, it has the ability to hook you then hang you! The track u-turns in an almost western direction in the bridge before coming out the other side and hammering home with a punk rock balls out attitude!”

The Desert Sun

“The band’s second single from Transitions ‘The Desert Sun’. This song is a journey. Venturing into new territory, the band has blended their raw 70s influenced rock with electronic elements, creating a gritty psychedelic landscape.”

Atlantis

“This track pulls right back, Low fi fuzz bass pulled together with a simple kick and snare pattern and spacey sample. Room has been left in this one for the addictive vocal melody to take hold.”

Zombie Ghost Town

“Mellow beginning that doesn’t last long, ‘Zombie Ghost Town’ kicks back into heavier territory and holds its groove throughout. No shortage of sing along parts in this tune!”

No Secrets

“An in your face hard hitting number, one for the fans of the bands heavier material – there is twist though?! wait for it.”

Oceans

“A slow burner that builds into an apocalyptic ending – upon listening you can understand why the track has been made the last!”
