Tracy Chapman has filed a lawsuit against Nicki Minaj for using a sample of Chapman’s ‘Baby Can I Hold You’ without permission. Chapman alleges that “Sorry” incorporates the lyrics and vocal melody from her original song.

The sample featured on “Sorry” — a collaborative track with Nas. The song is built on a foundation of Shelly Thunder’s track of the same name. Which is a cover of Tracey Chapman’s aforementioned song.

As TMZ reports, Chapman is suing “for an order prohibiting Nicki and her team from releasing the song again”. She is also seeking compensation for statutory damages. She claims that Minaj applied for clearance but was denied.
