After years as a critically-acclaimed author, Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh is set to make his foray into the world of music with his debut album.

Back in the ’90s, Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting undoubtedly changed pop culture as we know it. After being released as a book in 1993, it was adapted by Danny Boyle for a film of the same name in 1996.

With the movie becoming critically-acclaimed and featuring one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, Welsh’s success didn’t stop there, as adaptations of The Acid House and Ecstasy following over the years.

Now, it seems that the Scottish author is about to turn his attention to music, announcing plans to release his debut album sometime in the near future.

Speaking to The Scottish Times, Irvine Welsh explained that his upcoming acid house record will feature fun, humour, and the author singing in a German accent.

Reportedly designed as a “counterblast” to young artists who “have mastered the tech to create music at home but don’t dance”, the 60-year-old has been dropping his new tracks into some recent DJ sets.

“It’s not really banging, full-on mad stuff, but it’s a lot of classic acid house — swirling effects and noises and boomy basslines. Some of it is pretty groovy,” he explains. “Hopefully people are going to jump around and have a bop, but you’re not going to have your ears bleeding.”

“And you’re not going to want to be stripped to the waist, salivating and banging your head off the floor.”

Last year, it was reported that Irvine Welsh was creating TV show about the ’80s acid house scene, though no further information has come to light as yet.

While no release date has been announced for the new record, it comes just months after Irvine Welsh dropped his latest book – Dead Man’s Trousers – which once again features the characters from his iconic Trainspotting novel.
