It seems Trent Reznor, front man for industrial band Nine Inch Nails and How To Destroy Angels, has had no problem translating his success in music into success in the film business. Last year he won the Academy Award for best soundtrack for his work on The Social Network.
Now this year he’s back at it, scoring the soundtrack for the American adaptation of best-selling book The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, for which he has just received a Golden Globe nomination. The Golden Globes are often seen as a peg in the journey towards Oscar glory so things look bright Reznor.
On news that he and his composing partner Atticus Ross had recieved the nomination Reznor said “We’re incredibly flattered to receive a Golden Globe nomination for our work on ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
He continued “We spent the last year immersed in this project contributing to [director] David Fincher’s vision and in awe of the talented group of people he assembled to make this film. Atticus and I would like to thank the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press for this gracious acknowledgement of our work.”
Up against Reznor is Abel Korzeniowski who wrote the soundtrack for Madonna’s historical film about the man who wouldn’t be king of England, Edward VIII. Madonna also scored a nomination herself for best original song with co-writers Julie Frost and Jimmy Harry, for “Masterpiece” from the same film. Madonna will be competing against Elton John and Bernie Taupin for “Hello Hello” from the movie “Gnomeo & Juliet”.
