Parkway Drive have found themselves one pretty big fan in the form of Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller.
Late last month, Parkway Drive were in the closing stretch of their US tour when they hit up Albuquerque in the state of New Mexico. As it turns out, the city’s Mayor is a bit of a metalhead.
So, when the band found themselves getting ready to take the stage at the El Rey Theater on September 21st, they managed to recruit Tim Keller to help introduce the band for the evening.
“In this city, we believe in the power of metal,” Keller began, before bringing out local metalhead Bill Scott to help continue talking the band up.
“I used to live here, and then I lived in Australia,” Scott began. “And I can tell you, it’s a long way from Byron Bay – where Parkway Drive is from – to Albuquerque. These guys have a come a long way themselves, because they believe in themselves. They look for inspiration in themselves.”
Soon, Tim Keller took the mic back to continue singing the praises of the band, while also dropping lyrics from their track ‘Vice Grip’.
“In our city, we believe in ourselves, we look inside to deal with our challenges, we strive to be the best Albuquerque we can be,” he proclaimed. “We bring hope to the hopeless, we are the light in the darkness. Tonight, we keep the flame alive. So Albuquerque, scream for your inspiration, scream for Parkway Drive!”
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Tim Keller has made the headlines for something like this, with the heavy metal fan helping to introduce the likes of Anthrax and Trivium in the past.
Parkway Drive are set to hit up Aussie stages again later this month, and needless to say, we wish that some local politicians were as fun-loving and passionate about music as Albuquerque’s Tim Keller is.
