What were your food influences when you were growing up and what kind of food did you eat at home or with your family?

We lived on a pretty basic cuisine, after all it was the 90’s and everybody was poor in the 90’s from what I recall and culture didn’t exist yet. Home made meat pie that my father used to refer to as ‘Poverty Pie’ haha and various curries made on a base of curry powder, tin tomatoes and chicken. I think there was probably some form of basic pasta dish in there too.

What dish or cuisine do you most like to eat on tour and why?

I’m a fiend for a good Indian restaurant and will always seek one out whilst traveling. As to why, I just don’t think there’s anything more flavorsome than a good curry. Second preference is Mexican food.

What type of food do you hate, and what is the most disgusting thing you’ve ever eaten? Tell us the story.

This doesn’t sound very extreme but the worst thing I’ve ever eaten is just through sheer politeness – otherwise I avoid crap food to the max. I really don’t like peas, in fact, I’m partially allergic but to be polite when I was a young teen eating dinner at a friend’s house, I ate peas. Yeah, maxtreme. The kind of stuff Peter Combe could write a few hit songs about.

What type of food do you make sure to avoid before a gig or going on stage?

You gotta watch those carbs. They’re a one way trip to sleepy town. Everybody loves an unenthusiastic front man who rocks a hammock between songs. Replace most food with 5 or 6 shot coffees and you’re in party town.

Imagine for a second you can request anything on your rider at a gig. What food do you put on it?

Nachos covered in Butter Chicken. The official meal of the party dog.

What has been your biggest cooking disaster to date? Tell us the story.

Aye, when I was a kid, I was all about cooking sweets. Always determined to make Honeycomb and it never ever worked. Still even though it wouldn’t set I’d eat the sugary muck from the tray. Didn’t taste anything like honeycomb really and now my ability to process sugar is limited. If anybody has a time machine I need to send a message to my young self to warn him of what this form of diet will do to the functioning of my future self’s pancreas.

When you tour overseas, what food from home do you miss the most?

If only Velociraptor could afford to tour overseas. On personal holidays however I’ve found it’s hard to get a good steak or if you find one, they can be pricey. There’s no $5 steak nights in Japan and trust me, I looked everywhere.

This is your last day on earth, what is your final meal?

 It’s a three course.

We start with an entree of Pork Belly.

We move into aforementioned official party dog food – the sacred Butter Chicken Nachos.

And finally finish with some Orange Madeira Cake and Lamingtons.

The Game Changer Combo.
