With Australia day just around the corner it’s the time of the year where live music fans of our fair nation gear up for two of the most exciting events, Triple J’s Hottest 100 and the one and only Big Day Out Festival, however as we sadly know, the latter is no longer with us.
Big Day Out sadly went on “hiatus” after 2014, and in the spirit of the once great travelling musical circus, a high definition video has surfaced of last year’s festival, and despite it feeling a little bit more like a promotional video for an EDM festival like Future Music or Stereosonic, it does stir some rather sad and nostalgic emotions for the loss of what was Australia’s biggest and most revered music festival.
Filmed by Enamoured Iris, the vid features the likes of headliners Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam giving it their all on the notorious Blue and Orange Stages as a sea of punters lose their marbles under the scorching Aussie sun, which definitely pulls at the heartstrings.

Since its induction in 1992, this is the first year that Big Day Out has not operated (excluding 1998), and although discussion is thrown around that the festival may kickstart again in the 2016, nothing has been set in stone.
Perhaps this video may start the ball rolling for a campaign to bring what was once Australia’s proudest musical event back on the road and to its former glory.
Take a look a the high def, slow-mo 2014 highlight reel below, we do have to warn, you’ll feel equals parts happy as you do sad.
