This is a crossover that appeals to every single one of my interests that I could have never anticipated. Brisbane punk trailblazers WAAX have delivered a searing cover of Julia Jacklin’s ‘Pool Party’.

The cover is part of a live double single release. Also featured is a live performance of ‘FU’, a cut from their stunning debut album Big Grief, released last year. Both tracks were recorded for triple j’s Live at the Wireless.

WAAX’s Maz DeVita has delved into why she chose to cover the Julia Jacklin song, explaining “initially chose to cover this song because I was so taken by the songwriting and I related to the song on a spiritual level. I liked the challenge of taking a song that had such a waltz vibe and making it heavy – it was so fun to put it together.

The band’s interpretation of Jacklin’s track is bone-crushing in the best way possible. Maz’s voice harks to the gravelling intensity of Fiona Apple. They are truly the greatest rock band in Australia right now.

WAAX recently teamed up with the bona fide legends at Crowbar on a delicious, sparkling Pet Nat, dubbed DRAANK. The collaboration marks one of Crowbar’s first artist collaborations.

If you’re in Sydney or Brisbane we really encourage you to treat yourself to a Crowbar delivery. It’s crucial that we support local businesses during this hectic time, and they also have some of the finest wines we’ve had the pleasure of indulging in. Head to their website for more information.
