The second Vans Warped Tour 2013 lineup announcement was meant to be dropped by now, but some developments with the return of the iconic festival to Australia’s shores have seen it delayed thanks to the possible addition of some punk icons.
Meanwhile, the event has secured a new venue for its Melbourne leg while another local band has let slip of their place on the Warped Tour 2013 lineup ahead of the second announce, which was originally due back in July and then again set for “mid-September” but yet to be unveiled.
Considering the hectic month that promoter AJ Maddah has had, including the official cancellation of Harvest Festival before announcing that he had bought into the Big Day Out, while busily putting things in place for the next round of bands to be added to Soundwave 2014, it’s little wonder that the second Warped Tour 2013 lineup announcement has been pushed back again.
Following on from announcing an initiative that allows fans to ‘skip the queues’, while donating to a good cause, news from Maddah’s camp reveals that Swedish punk favourites Millencolin are the reason behind the lineup delay, as FasterLouder points out.
An errant tweet from the Warped promoter recently revealed he’s got his fingers crossed to “shoe-horn” Millencolin in to the Warped bill, alongside The Offspring, Simple Plan, Parkway Drive, New Found Glory and more. The punk pop Swedes, who last year celebrated their 20th anniversary, last visited Australia off the back of Maddah’s Soundwave 2011.
@lorinw21 I am trying to get Millencolin shoe horned into the 2nd announcement. Just waiting on them to tell me 1 way or the other

Last week, Maddah told a fan on his twittersphere that organisers were waiting on finalisation from one last band “worth waiting on” before announcing, which may or may not be Millencolin.
@xxLucyyJanexx tbh we're waiting on 1 band to try and get out of a Euro show they have in that timeframe. Worth waiting on!

While Millencolin’s commitment is up in the air, a local band has let confirmed their place on the Warped Tour 2013 lineup.
Trenton Woodley, frontman of Canberra’s Hands Like Houses, let slip of the band’s involvement during a recent interview with Jenna McDougall, the frontwoman for Tonight Alive, as the AMH Network reports.
Following the release of their second album Unimagine, Hands Like Houses also toured with Tonight Alive, who were already confirmed as part of the 18-strong bill for Warped when it was first announced last July.
That has the Canberra group pegged as one of a “load of locals” promised on the second Warped lineup announcement, and in fact the festival put out an open call for recommendations for Aussie bands for each of Warped’s six dates this November/December.
Maddah has also said to “expect another 4 or 5 internationals” added, aside from the possibility of Millencolin, that include polarising punk outfit Falling In Reverse, who could be announced for the Warped bill (or possibly the Soundwave 2014 lineup) “when visas are 100% approved,” tweeted Maddah recently. Reel Big Fish have also been rumoured since the band revealed plans earlier this month to return to Australia, but have yet to confirm any dates on their official tour page.
In related news, the Melbourne leg of Warped looks like it’ll be heading to the Flemington Racecourse.
As previously reported, festival organisers were searching for a new home after the Melbourne Warped “outsold its capacity” at its originally scheduled venue, Birrarung Marr (or “Birrang Mahr or whatever that silly piece of land is where they hold Moonbah,” as Maddah put it).
The strong ticket sales have led to the change in locale to Flemington Racecourse, but given the proposed date of Saturday 7th December, puts the punk and rock fans right next door to the electronic music aficionados attending Stereosonic 2013 at the nearby Royal Melbourne Showgrounds, as a fan pointed out to Maddah on twitter, to which the promoter responded by saying that the logistics would not affect the event.
@Doomsayer__ Stereo crowd come in late and leave late. Our crowd come in early and we finish an hour before them.
