Recently footage emerged of Tye Trujillo, 12-year-old son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, filling in for Korn bassist Reginald ‘Fieldy’ Arvizu during their South American tour, but now we’ve got a full-on mini-doco about the young bass prodigy’s crazy experience on the seven-date tour.

As Consequence of Sound reports, the 15-minute tour flick was filmed by Korn’s official videographer Sébastien Paquet, and its titled – appropriately enough – The Prodigy and the Son. It’s narrated by Robert Trujillo, and sure enough he sounds as proud as could be to see his son following in his footsteps.

The documentary includes the moment that ‘Fieldy’ bumped into the young Trujillo at an airport, with the friendship kicking off right then and there.

“Fieldy was very excited to see Tye,” Robert recounts. “He was like, ‘I follow you on Instagram. You’re badass!’”

“The band embraced him right away,” Paquet adds. “They loved reliving the emotional moments while watching the film. Fieldy, who obviously was not in South America with the guys, got a kick out of the live footage, watching his band perform with Tye, playing one of his signature Ibanez K5 basses. He is extremely proud of him.”

Definitely one of the coolest rock ‘n’ roll stories in recent memory, and you can watch it all below.
