Middle Kids done Sydney proud while giving a powerful rendition of their single ‘Questions’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live

The indie three-piece appeared on the late night show yesterday, May 6th. Remotely filmed because of COVID-19, lead singer Hannah Joy surprisingly started the performance herself in a sadly empty concert hall. She sat on the floor and played solo, before a big curtain reveal brought the rest of the band out to join her. Middle Kids, you big tease.

They weren’t done there either, a second curtain lifting later to show a small horn section amid a burst of confetti. The whole piece is stirring and stunning and a great showcase of the band’s talents to a new audience.

It was also their second time on Kimmel, first appearing on the show back in 2018. They’ve been busy on the talk show circuit recently too, promoting the new album on The Late Show With James Corden and CBS This Morning.

‘Questions’ was a song on their second studio album, Today We’re the Greatest. The album was recorded over two weeks in Los Angeles, incredibly while Hannah was seven months pregnant with her husband – and bandmates – Tim Fitz’s baby boy Sunny.

We named it as our Record Of The Week when it came out back in March: “Equal parts beautiful and powerful, vulnerable and intimate songwriting is on display at its most tender moments, while the group’s beloved indie-rock sound is never too far away. Needless to say, a title like ‘Today We’re The Greatest’ isn’t even close to being a superlative.” Today We’re the Greatest peaked at number five in the ARIA album charts.

And if their performance on Kimmel caught your attention, Middle Kids are heading out on tour around Australia and New Zealand in May and June, landing in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington, and Auckland. They’ll also be hitting the U.S. – pandemic permitting – later in the year. Find full dates and further details here.
