Drama series set in the music industry have been gaining a lot of traction lately. It seems like in the wake of the success of Empire, major networks can’t wait to green light any show depicting the supposedly glamorous world of music.
Some of you may have caught the first episode of Vinyl, the new series set in the coke-fuelled music industry of the ’70s, and now Showtime are set to premiere a new show that takes us behind the scenes into the world of roadies.
We know what you’re thinking: “A reality show that depicts a band of veteran roadies as they drink whiskey, snort meth, and trade road stories? Awesome!” But no, Roadies is a far more, uh, idealised take on the men and women who make live music happen.
Starring a cast of incredibly good-looking people including Luke Wilson, Carla Gugino, and Imogen Poots, Roadies is “an insider’s look at the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a committed group of ‘roadies'”.
In addition to the big names starring in the show, there’s big names behind the scenes as well. The show was created, written, executive produced, and directed by Cameron Crowe (which explains the strong Almost Famous vibes in the trailer) and executive produced by J.J. Abrams.
If the trailer is anything to go by, the show will be taking some serious artistic liberties with the genuine lives of roadies. As we previously reported, research has shown working in the entertainment industry isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
