Nashville-based band Lake and Lyndale have released the music video for their song ‘There’s a Weight’, and the whole thing was shot in one take. Backwards.

For the past 4 months, Americana and Country music band, Lake and Lyndale, have been preparing for an insane music video idea. Something that really gives OK Go a run for their money.

Starting up the music video for ‘There’s a Weight’, you’d think it was just like any other country video, with frontwoman Channing Marie opening up the scene, face covered in what looks like paint.

However, as things go on, you start to notice the whole world around Marie is backward. Debris and colour start to fly off the singer, in reverse. It’s almost as if magic was used behind the scenes.

The key to the video’s magic? Marie was walking backwards. And singing backwards. For four months, Marie learned the entire song backward so that the take for the video would be absolutely perfect.

If that wasn’t entertainment enough, you can see the entire take, but forwards, in the behind the scenes video.

In the vid, you can see Marie walking backward and singing over a very witch-like reversed backing track.

It’s quite remarkable to see how well Channing Marie has learned the song in its entirety backward.

The concept in its entirety was the creation of videographer Ben Boutwell from CreateWell LLC who has been attempting to put this idea into practice for multiple years now.

“Another client of mine tried to do it, but he ended up not being able to learn the song backward, so we did something else. I was so excited to have Lake and Lyndale be so committed to this concept. It was a dream come true,” he said.

You can watch Lake and Lyndale putting in the hard work for the video in another behind the scenes video below.
