This Mississippi rock band don’t necessarily know if they are coming or going, but what they do know is how to tell a story of life’s trials and tribulations. The musicians have an air of confidence, distinguishing them as gentleman having lived through adversity while having learnt to treasure the moments of prosperity.

Working what appears to be an impossible schedule and touring like mad men, Justin Kinkel-Schuster and Andrew Bryant create music so passionate you can feel it. This collection feels like a deep sorrow, one that’s so entrenched that it’s the driving force behind the record’s every move. Utilising both compelling lyrics and powerful guitar grunge, the dynamic duo have sought the services of GR Robinson on bass, taking the sound to another level of sombre elation.

The self-titled third release experiments with an ever changing pace and volume and combines it with graphically vivid lyrics echoing the despair that lingers in the misfortunes of the Deep South (USA).  On ‘I Want Blood’ Kinkel-Schuster wallows Strange lands hold no fear for me, which depicts the world around and the urgency for needing to broaden horizons – the overarching sense of needing to become aware of one’s self and his, or her, meaning in life.

It’s both a celebration and a tragedy combining the upbeat, pure rock ‘n roll of ‘Ray Charles Dream’ and emotional ballads like ‘Swannanoa’, showcasing the progressive sound Water Liars have moulded themselves into.

The LP is balanced, evoking deep thoughts while leaving an impact on the psyche of the listener. There’s a sense of inner peace felt while listening to Water Liars whilst the world rages around you.
