Noel Gallagher is celebrating 10 years as a solo artist and to honour the milestone released an album, the High Flying Birds best of, Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021).
Released on June 11th, to mark the occasion we’re giving away two vinyl copies and two double CDs of the album. “It seemed like the right time,” said Gallagher, on why he’s releasing a “best of” album now.
“It got to 10 years and then lockdown with nothing else going on, so it gave me something to focus on really.
“Best ofs, the titles are always terrible,” he continued. “And it just came to me one afternoon, at the kitchen table. It’s a saying isn’t it: ‘back the way we came’. I actually thought it was a great title. Which is why it’s got Vol 1. Because if there’s another one, I’m not coming up with another title! It’s great.”
Pulling tracks from his three solo albums (Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Chasing Yesterday and Who Built The Moon?), all of which hit number one in the UK, as well as his more recent genre-melting EPs released between 2019 and 2020 (Black Star Dancing, This Is The Place and Blue Moon Rising), Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021) features 18 songs entirely chosen and ordered by the former Oasis member himself – and did we mention it also has two brand new tracks on it?
The first of the two singles, ‘We’re On Our Way Now’ was released back in April, but second single ‘Flying On the Ground’ isn’t the only new thing you’ll hear on the album’s arrival. The greatest hits collection will also include limited edition deluxe box set formats with a bonus disc containing unreleased material, acoustic versions, remixes, a demo and more.
