Back in April, we reported on a study released by the folks over at Spotify, which attempted to uncover which musical genre had the most loyal fans. After narrowing down the biggest artists in each genre, they divided the number of streams each had by the number of listeners.
While it may have come as a shock to some, it was hardly a surprise to us that metal fans are the world’s most loyal music fans. Their fidelity to their genre and the bands they love far outweighed that of the number two genre (which was pop, if you were curious) by a considerable margin.
Though Spotify’s researchers insisted blues and jazz fans simply have more refined tastes and are less likely to show devotion to the “core” artists of their genre than metal or pop fans, we knew the truth. Metal fans are simply more loyal than any other music fans in the world, and not just when it comes to music.
As MetalSucks reports, a recent survey conducted by Victoria Milan, an Ashley Madison-type website that helps attached people cheat, decided to look into the music tastes of their users and whether it makes them think of their illicit lovers. They surveyed a total of 6,500 users.
The results were interesting. First off, the study showed that three quarters of filthy, dirty cheaters think about their undercover lovers when listening to their favourite music, which sort of makes our stomachs churn.
But what’s even more fascinating is the genre breakdown, which readers can check out below. Basically, this shows what music the respondents are into, though it’s not known if users taking the survey were allowed to select more than one favourite genre:
Jazz: 19%
Salsa: 14%
Pop: 13%
Country: 12%
Rap: 9%
Classical music: 8%
Blues: 6%
Reggae: 5%
Rock and roll: 5%
Electronica: 4%
Indie: 3%
Heavy metal: 2%
As you can clearly see, while the image of the common metal head is someone who is a fast and loose sex machine out on the prowl, they’re actually the most loyal partners you can find. Fans of jazz and salsa on the other hand are no good, lowdown cheaters who need to be kicked to the curb.
Of course, one has to take the findings with a grain of salt. After all, the sample size is relatively small and it could just be that fans of genres like heavy metal and indie are less likely to use a website to get all of their cheating done, or respond to surveys on said websites.
That said, we’ve known our share of metalhead couples and they’re without a doubt some of the most devoted, together forever duos you will ever find. We just reckon metalheads have loyalty in their blood and it doesn’t matter if they’re staying true to their favourite band or their bae.
