Darren Middleton is best known for his contributions to the legacy of Australian music as the guitarist in iconic Brisbane band Powderfinger who took the nation by storm dominating the Australian charts from their humble beginnings in 1992, right up until their disbanding in 2010. Now, Middleton steps out solo once again, announcing release of his upcoming album ‘Splinters’, a follow up to his 2013 full length debut solo album ‘Trans-lations.’
The first taste of the Splinters album due out on November 6th comes in the form of a double A-side single including ‘The Lines’ & ‘Our Road’ to be released on July 17th.
Darren is joined by Guy Pearce, Talei Wolfram and the gospel style sounds of the Monash Choral Society on background vocals on first track ‘The Lines’. The Lines flows like an hon-est whisper, telling the conflicting Story of someone trying to do what is right, but waver-ing. Narrating a battle to stick between the lines, but finding it hard, the haunting yet an-themic chorus is a voice of patience warning caution with the decisions that are yet to be made.
‘Our Road’ is a song simply inspired by travel, going on a new journey to new places or with someone new. The song has taken many twists itself in its sonic delivery, arriving fi-nally as an amalgamation of sharp muted guitar riffs matched with a driving drum line and Middleton’s signature melodic guitar solos.
To celebrate the release of Splinters, Darren is hitting the road for a string of preview shows and we’re giving Brisbane readers the chance to score a double pass to Darren in action at his show on the 18th of September at The Powerhouse Theatre. Enter your details below for a chance to win!
