After wowing fans and performing hundreds of shows across Canada and North America, Half Moon Run and Kim Churchill team up to perform a special showcase gig at The Vanguard for Indica Records on Wednesday 2nd January.
Half Moon Run is a talented young trio based in Montreal, Canada. Devon Portielje, from Ottawa (On), met Conner Molander and Dylan Phillips, from Comox (BC), through a mutual friend. It was in Montreal’s mile-end district that the trio bonded and created their unique sound, fusing together the restless elements of indie, pop and folk with beautiful rhythmic harmonies, delicate guitar lines and a hint of warm electronica.
Their new album DARK EYES combines folky three-part harmonies, moody psychedelic arrangements and electronic-infused soundscapesand has already created world-wide attention with Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons) proudly announcing “they are my new favourite band”.
Kim Churchill at 21 years of age is acknowledged for his technical guitar talent, with style and lyrical outlook far beyond his years. His unique delivery is explosive, with intricate finger picking, percussive beats on the body of the guitar, and two-handed tapping intertwined with a 24 inch kick drum, electronic snare trigger, cascading harmonica melodies, and soulful voice.
Kim’s latest album DETAIL OF DISTANCE was recorded in Vancouver and produced by Todd Simko. The eleven tracks showcase a maturing artist whose traditional folk/blues edge is developing with a rockier edge, an aspect clearly highlighted by the album’s first single “Season’s Grind”. A driving guitar based track with a funky/retro rock feel that’s sure to win Churchill new fans whilst satisfying his fervent following.
