Motörhead are a bit like an old car. Sure, they may be built for speed, but their racing stripes are starting to peel off.

Actually, come to think of it, their engine probably should’ve spluttered to a halt a long time ago. But it hasn’t. They just keep on going and we’re concerned about the amount of mileage on the odometer.

Filmed over three shows in 2011, the band’s latest release The Word Is Ours: Vol. 2 Anyplace Crazy As Anywhere Else is probably the best indication that these aging rockers are edging ever closer to the heavy metal scrapyard.

The first item in the package, the DVD, instantly makes us wonder whether a band that gained their reputation for playing shows that resemble a sweaty barroom brawl really need to be presented in glorious HD.

The  accompanying CDs exist as a companion to the DVD, mirroring the exact same track-list in the same order.

Repetition aside, The Word Is Ours – Vol 2 does have its highlights. Motörhead are still a great live band, and their crowds show them plenty of love.

The inclusion of ‘Going To Brazil’ in the Rock in Rio set is a nice touch, and it’s tough not to laugh at the cheer that erupts when the song is dedicated to “any Brazilians in the audience”.

But just like vintage autos, Motörhead’s legacy is only kept alive by a passionate fanclub. The World Is Ours Vol 2 is for those fans alone.
