Wollongong’s Yours and Owls festival, which recently announced its massive lineup, has just launched a new initiative, trying to stamp out environmental and safety issues faced when putting on festivals.
The program, dubbed Party With A Purpose, sees the festival double down all-important festival related issues. As of now, all of the event promoter’s events will be bound by brand-new house rules, which tackle problems around patron safety, sexual assaults, and the waste we create and consume.
Yours & Owls said it trialled many of these rules last year. Their trial includes the use of “re-usable cups and water bottles, composting food waste, plates and cutlery, achieving an 85% recycling rate by minimising waste going to landfill.”
“The team also ran a tree planting and bush regeneration day to assist in offsetting carbon emission, engaging and inspiring the local community to get involved in volunteering for the betterment of their surrounding environment,” the festival’s promoters said.

- If you’re feeling unwell or uncomfortable, tell your friends and/or staff right away.
- Be respectful of boundaries and personal space.

- We want all of our events to be socially inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ community and welcome everyone regardless of their sexuality, gender identity, race or religion.
- We will not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
- Clean up after yourself.
- Keep up the H2O.
- Be mindful of our neighbours, enter & exit the venue respectfully.
