In this blessed month, 10 years ago, the course of human history was changed forever. In the month of June 2009, Ur Boy Bangz released his career-defining single ‘Take U To Da Movies’, and invented the concept of music as we know it.

No single man has had a cultural impact as significant as our boy Bangz. A true rap game savant. His legacy seeps through every human contribution to art. His surrealist nature is rumoured to have served as the core inspiration behind Dalí’s ‘The Persistence of Memory’ and his knack for observational writing spurred the genre of filmmaking that we now recognise as Cinéma vérité.

Now, it is time to celebrate the track that started it all. It’s been ten years since Bangz courted a mysterious woman with a penchant for cinema and he’s making sure that we don’t forget it.

We love you Ur Boy Bangz, thank you for everything you’ve done for us.

It’s important that we recognise that Bangz has refused to rest on the laurels of “You can be my Cinderella when it rains/ you can be standing under my umbrella.” No, the rap god has consistently released hit after hit.

Earlier this year he unleashed ‘Take U To KFC.’ Whilst the track doesn’t hold a candle to his magnum opus, ‘Take U To Da Movies’ it still puts My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy to shame.

‘Take U To KFC’ saw Bangz venture into trap territory. In the confessional track, he assures his lover that he’ll make sure they “eat good, smoke good, drink good” and most importantly “feel good” next to him. There has been no word as to whether this lover is the same shawty painted in his debut single, but we certainly hope it worked out for Bangz.
