The final celebrations of Mardi Gras season are coming up, and every party you throw must be filled to the brim with classic dancefloor hits. That’s where I come in to help you keep the party pumping.

Everyone loves a boogie, and even moreso when its Mardi Gras season, which can basically be translated to Gay Christmas. 

Here are 20 songs that absolutely need to be on your 2020 playlists, or else you will have people walking away from your festivities and straight into the arms of Arq, and seriously, we do not want that.

Sure some of these songs are your stereotypical bops heard in every gay club, but hey, they’re stereotypical for a reason. They mean a lot to the LGBTQIA community, and are perfect for dropping all your cares and dancing the night away.

1. ‘Into the Groove’ – Madonna

This spot could easily be replaced with any Madonna song really, they’re all pretty fantastic.

2. ‘Sing It Back’ – Moloko

Do disregard ‘Sing It Back’ this Mardi Gras season or Moloko will come to haunt you while you sleep in a bed that probably isn’t yours.

3. ‘Believe’ – Cher

You better believe that this song would be on this list. It could take all 20 spots and I would not flinch.

4. ‘All the Lovers’ – Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue basically invented the Australian gays, but this song especially gets extra points for its inclusive message and video.

5. ‘Wannabe’ – Spice Girls

Your stock standard Spice Girls bop to get the people moving.

6. ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) – ABBA

The title of this song has been uttered so many times by the gays that it was only right to put this track on the list.

7. ‘Physical’ – Dua Lipa

Why look to the past for classics when you can enjoy the current bops making waves. Dua Lipa is slowly becoming the name on everyone’s lips. She’s got a point, she’s an icon and she is the moment, and most of all, she will be performing at this years Mardi Gras After Party.

8. ‘S&M’ – Rihanna

After all, we have to represent every community within the LGBTQIA…

9. ‘Emotions’ – Mariah Carey

Nothing says feel-good like this track. Perfect for washing away every single care during Mardi Gras.

10. ‘Good As Hell’ – Lizzo

Baby, how you feelin?

11. ‘Born This Way’ – Lady Gaga

You knew this song had to make an appearance. Sure you might be over it by now, but how many other songs are so explicit in their pro-gay message? We must stand in attendance to our national anthem.

12. ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’ – Shania Twain

It was a bloody battle between this and ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’.

13. ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ – Whitney Houston

Now this, this sparks joy.

14. ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ – Madison Avenue

Absolutely under no circumstances should you ever call me baby. And that is gospel law. The book of Madison Avenue, chapters 5-6.

15. ‘Crazy In Love’ – Beyonce

I envy those who know every single move and word to this song, because there’s a lot of those people out there, and they bring the whole party. Then again they’re probably an Aries or a Leo so it makes sense right?

16. ‘Teardrops’ – Womack & Womack

Look, don’t argue with me on this one okay. She stays.

17. ‘Take It Off’ – Ke$ha

Ke$ha practically invented glitter, so it would be a sin to leave her out. Also, she too will be playing the Mardi Gras After Party.

18. ‘Make Me Feel’ – Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae deserves the recognition as a gay icon that she is very slowly starting to get. We need her in our lives.

19. ‘Toxic’ – Britney Spears

Do I really need to explain why? Everyone becomes a sexual deity when this track comes on.

20. ‘Dancing Queen’ – ABBA

ABBA said gay rights so profoundly throughout their career that they deserve two spots on this prestigious party playlist.
