Reps for former 2NE1 members CL and Park Bom were quick to deny reports that the hit K-pop quartet were gearing up for a comeback.

Sorry Blackjacks, looks like we’re going to have to wait for that 2NE1 musical reunion. Earlier today, the former group members’ individual reps were quick to deny reports that the quartet had gotten together to record new music.

Rumors of a possible new release by 2NE1 surfaced on Wednesday when an industry insider reportedly stated to a South Korean publication that the group had gotten together in the beginning of 2021 to record a new song.

In a statement that followed, however, member CL’s representatives called the rumors untrue: “It is not true that 2NE1 recorded a song as a full group.”

Speaking to Hankook Ilbo (as translated by Soompi), the representative said: “For Minzy’s birthday in January, the 2NE1 members gathered at CL’s recording studio, and it seems like that is how the misunderstanding arose. There are no specific plans at all regarding preparations for a full-group reunion and song release.”

This was followed by another statement from Park Bom’s agency D-NATION Entertainment, who said (as translated by Soompi): ““Nothing has been decided in regards to a reunion. The recording did not take place.”

Debuting in 2009, 2NE1 are considered a seminal act in K-pop, pioneering hard-hitting concepts and subverting erstwhile expectations. While their official activities were suspended in 2016, the four members — CL, Park Bom, Sandara Park, and Minzy — have maintained close friendships and frequently expressed desires to work together again.

In an appearance on the hit Korean show Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook last year, CL talked about her hopes of making music together again, saying: “Personally, we talk about it a lot. We talk about it among ourselves. That if the time comes, we’ll be able to come together again.”
