A Yeo Australian Tour 2014 has been announced to celebrate the release of the music maverick’s latest single ‘Kobe’.
Having spent the summer touring alongside Ngairre, Fractures, and most recently Glass Animals, Yeo reveals ‘Kobe’ as the second offering from his forthcoming EP. Produced by Yeo and mixed by Phil Threlfall, the track has amassed almost 50,000 spins on Soundcloud within the first two weeks of its release.
‘Kobe’ captures much of the aesthetic of the single it follows-up, ‘Girl’, wrapped into an intellectual pop song with significant ear-worming capabilities.
Released in October last year, ‘Girl’ presented yet another incarnation to the enigmatic Melbourne producer-musician’s career-defining evolution as a lo-fi, proto-RnB jam. While ‘Girl’ may have caught some familiar with his past works by surprise, it was met with instantaneous approval from countless blogs the world over as well as drawing praise across-the-board among the taste-making desk jockeys at Triple J.
By year’s end, Girl, had amassed 100k streams on Soundcloud and Youtube and earned a place on multiple ‘Best of 2013’ lists, while Yeo’s latest album Sell Out also earned a spot on Tone Deaf’s Top Albums of 2013 You Might’ve Missed.
“In an alternate history, this kind of distinctive fizzing neo-pop would top the charts and see Yeo rubbing shoulders with Prince or Pharrell… but maybe it’s just a matter of time,” hailed our Tone Deaf scribe.
‘Kobe’ now sends Yeo into a national headline tour, delivering his unique brand of genre-melding music-making to stages all over Australia.
