If you haven’t heard about King Krule yet, you’re going to soon. Just 19 years old, he is the latest in a never-ending line of talented young British redheads (move over Ron Weasley and Ed Sheeran).

With his debut LP, he consolidates his spot as one of the unique and moodiest young acts around.

It doesn’t take long for you to realise that King Krule (known by his mother as Archy Marshall) is not your average young singer/songwriter. From the instant his smug bellow echoes out on opening track ‘Easy Easy’, its hard not realise that 6 Feet Beneath The Moon is going to be a harrowing experience.

When Marshall gets the mixture right, his combination of percussion and twangy but delicate guitar can become a meditative gel where even his most brash lyrics just seem to fit the part perfectly.

Although thoroughly interesting and intriguing, it is hard to tell what message Marshall is attempting to send on his debut record.

At times he appears distraught, “Another disappointed soul/Well I tried to keep in control”, while at other times he just comes across splenetic and angry, “I’m going to rip you from the inside out”.

Although some lyrical slurs seem more fit to come from the mouth of an alcoholic on a drunken escapade, sometimes you just have to give credit to ambition and uniqueness. Lucky for King Krule, his ambition works just right.
