So many great new tracks continue to land in our inboxes (we still get snail mail too). This week we’re really excited about new tracks from Bat For Lashes, new band for Little Red members New Gods, Brisbane’s Charlie Mayfair, the wonderful Wild Belle, Animaux and Argentina.
Bat For Lashes – All Your Gold
We’ve already had two servings from Bat For Lashes’ forthcoming third album, The Haunted Man, in the stark ballad ‘Laura’ and the synth glitz of ‘Marilyn’; now we have our third sampling. Following on from the female idolisation of that pair of tracks, Lashes lady Natasha Khan’s latest focuses on the boy blues. “Your’e a good man/you’re a good man/I keep telling myself” she intones over some dusty guitar grooves and a skyscraping, emotive chorus – the kind that she looks to perfect with her latest release.
Charlie Mayfair – Waste Me
‘Waste Me’ is a stunning track from Brisbane four piece band Charlie Mayfair. Hannah Shepherd’s beautiful high notes are teamed layered backing vocals, clever lyrics and hooks with driving drum beats that lead the song to great a intensity. Make sure you catch them on tour on their east coast tour this month. Definitely a band to watch out for.
New Gods – On Our Side
With members from Little Red, Eagle & The Worm and Ground Components making up this new Melbourne band it’s hard not to have high expectations. Thankfully the already accomplished songwriting of Little Red frontman Dominc Byrne has delivered again with the band’s first single. ‘On Our Side’ captures a classic Australian sound while still sounding contemporary. The band doesn’t shy away from some ’80s inspired keys but it’s the harmonies in the chorus that really make track a cracker.
Wild Belle – Keep You
This Chicago 2 piece have impressed thousands with their 12″ vinyl release including ‘Keep you’ & ‘Take Me Away’. With a soulful ska sound that reminds you summer is coming, the track ‘Keep You’ is one of two tracks released for there debut so come on in and meet the next Lana Del Rey-sized blog buzz cult. Wild Belle’s ‘Keep You’ synth vibe differs from the thousands you’ve heard before it as a consistent and seemingly ska influenced rhythm sets the song in it’s own league. With popularity buzzing from recent SXSW & Coachella performances this won’t be the last time you’ll hear about Wild Belle, I am sure.
Animaux – Paradise
Local band Animaux’s latest release ‘Paradise’ is just what you’d expect from the seven-piece: pretty melodies, up-tempo beats and just a little bit of cheekiness. The band will be launching the single, which has already garnered a lot of love, in early October much to the delight of expectant fans. With a hearty horn-section and female vocals taking the lead, this track is impossibly summery. Here’s hoping the weather starts matching these stellar tunes so we can enjoy Animaux’s music to the fullest.
Argentina – Not Your Friend
Under the moniker of Argentina, Brisbane singer/producer Alex Ritchie has been making waves in Brisbane’s local scene since the release of his first single ‘Bad Kids’. One EP later, and ‘Not Your Friend’ his latest effort, has already garnered some great reviews on triple j’s Unearthed site. This latest track stays in the vein of Argentina’s previous releases with heartfelt lyrics being juxtaposed over semi-industrial but always catchy synth beats. Having just announced a joint tour with Tokyo Denmark Sweden and Them Swoops, there’s a lot more to be heard from Argentina for sure.
