Reminiscent of the old high school rock group your best mates used to play in, The Pretty Littles are bringing back the good times with high fives and a spoonfull of your favorite raw sugar to help that medicine go down.
Opening track “Hectic Psychotic” doesn’t leave much to the imagination as a spine twisting riff is joined by screeching cries that could easily say, “don’t you dare flip this record or we’ll track you down and strangulate your balls with the strings of our raging guitars” – not literally of course.
After admitting that their debut Fairweather “did good”, the band got back in the studio to slam out I Am Not From A Small Town. What’s clear from their own review of their first EP is that things aren’t taken too seriously with the Melbourne boys.
Don’t let the simplicity of their self proclaimed “bang, slap, strum and YELL” based rockabilly platter disguise the fact that these boys are making some serious digs into the Australian music scene with a strong cult following, and gigs that are sure pound at least a few ear drums.
When listening to the record, be sure to keep an ear out for “I’m Big Man”, “Mumma” and “Small Towns”, and take a moment to reflect shortly after.
The four-piece excel in keeping a high voltage rock influence prominent while still showing their class with “Never Had A Story”, which could quite possibly be one of the “ballads for chicks and that”, as the band so cleverly describe it.
In any case, anyone who gives I Am Not From A Small Town a listen will soon find out that there’s nothing small time about The Pretty Littles.
